Audi scores historic diesel victory in Sebring

In other related motorsports news - how CNN'is - Audi Sport North America's team dominated the 54th running of the Mobil 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida yesterday, starting from pole and winning by four laps in a new Audi R10 TDI Power (yes, you read correctly, a Turbo Diesel engine.)

The winners drove 349 laps around the 3.7-mile World War II airport course in 12 hours, 12 seconds in the American Le Mans Series opener.

Audi will become the first manufacturer to compete for the overall victory with a diesel engine at the most famous sportscar race in the world - the 24 hours of Le Mans. Don't say I didn't warn you about Diesel engines taking over the world

Audi unveiled the new R10, its successor to the brilliant R8, in December in Paris. The engine is a marvel - a 5.5-liter, all-aluminum v12 twin-turbo TDI. It develops 650 hp and more than 1,100 Nm torque. I crushed all other cars on the GT track yesterday, including the Ferrari's, Corvettes and Aston Martins.
