IRS II

Interesting. I just got a letter from the IRS today. Looked kind of scary and official.

Turns out it was good news. Last year, after spending a weekend in the library pouring over tax law books and looking at my W2's, it seemed to me like too much social security tax for the year had been withheld. There is a hard limit per year, and because I had 2 employers the year I moved to NYC, each one withheld too much. I filed a claim with the IRS. Nothing happened. Weeks and months went by. I just assumed I was wrong and overlooked something.

It's a year later now, and the IRS finally responded. The letter says that after reviewing my tax return, they have concluded too much social security tax was indeed withheld, and I am owed a refund. $1,721.35. Sweet
