A guy fully walking through the MIDDLE of Senix Creek, here in town. The Creek is no job, it's 150 feet wide at some points and up to 8 feet deep in the summer. There was a guy walking on it with a pole, presumably fishing, like it was the North Pole. Very interesting and unusual sight that we have not had since we are here.

We placed some accent spot lights across the house to help highlight some of the art on the walls. I think they look nice, creates a cool "museum-like" effect. The lights are configurable in angle and intensity, as well as color temperature. We like them at 2700k or 3000k best.

There is a bit more work that it might seem to hang these. Measurement is the most important part, and the distance from the wall is often overlooked. You want the light hitting at about 30 degrees. ChatGPT is great in assisting with the geometry!

You have:

Art: 36" W × 48" H
Ceiling: 96"
Top of art is 15.5" below ceiling

So:
1) Find the art heights
Top of art height: 96 − 15.5 = 80.5"
Bottom of art height: 80.5 − 48 = 32.5"
Center of art height: (80.5 + 32.5)/2 = 56.5

2) Best ceiling light distance from the wall
Same target: ~30° angle, so:
Ceiling to art center: 96 − 56.5 = 39.5"
Distance from wall: 39.5 × 0.58 ≈ 22.9"

✅ Ideal distance: about 23 inches out from the wall.

I bought a chess box for my nicer chess pieces. Amboyna burl was recommended to me as the material, I was not familiar with it but as it turns out it's very beautiful. It's a rare wood from South East Asia that is very dense and durable, and has vibrant red-to-brown colors.

Turns out I am such a dummy that I mounted the abstract art wrong! I am in touch with the artist, who is from Bologna in Italy, and she helped get it setup right! New pictures included:

Two pieces on the wall:

1) A vintage glicée map of Long Island - this is much better than what we had before which was the north shore and not as relevant to where we are. This covers the whole island in high resolution, and is mounted on a brushed gold frame which better matches the design language established in the room

2) An abstract work by a young Italian artist called Habitat 7.0 which features an abstract deconstructed habit. I wanted something geography adjacent but not another map, and I wanted muted colors or no colors so it would not compete with the focus of the room which is the TV and fireplace. I think this works well.
