Got my Google Wave invite earlier this week, i didn't realize it had come in, got lost in my inbox. Will take a look over the week, see what all the hype is about.
Got up relatively early this morning. Definitely have a sore throat
.
Damp and rainy out, and a little cool (~50 F)
The 2 stacks of 100 (2x100 DVD-Rs) arrive this week as well, I had run out of blanks, which is unusual. All stocked up again.
The USB N wireless card on my desktop seems to work well, permanently connected to the router at 72 Mbps, that's a nice improvement. Range seems better as well from anywhere in the house, the router upgrade was a success.
the weekend is here. nate will be visiting, he is looking for an apartment. it's been raining today, very windy at times and also cold. i think i am getting a cold myself, felt dizzy this evening, we'll see.
just caught up on the last 2 gossip girl episodes w/ nicole, not bad. been tinkering with the audio modes of my onkyo receiver for a bit, finding the optimal settings.
i have a couple initial grievances regarding windows 7's UI so far. the first one is that the task bar, which now looks a little more like the mac dock, cannot be made to stay permanently on but be under all windows. you had always been able to do this, and this is exactly how i liked it. the 2 options they give you now is: a) make it so that it hides and when you rollover it slides in or b) make it permanently present but staying always on top of all other windows. i don't like either option. i wonder who was the bright ui designer that decided to take away the functionality.
secondly, i don't like the new design for the icons on the taskbar. they made them all white, which makes them look disabled. some of them in particular, like the wireless signal strenght indicator, when you see white bars that typically used to mean on all previous OS's that the device wasnt' working. once it worked, the bars turned green, or blue. not now, they are white, and when it doesn't work they blink and show a red x. a step back, in my opinion. the power charging indicator looks real weird in white as well. bah.
the third thing i have noticed is that performance on an older video chipset is a little worse than vista. that was surprising to me, as windows 7 was introduced as "faster" in all ways, but i do not believe that is quite the case. my almost 3 year old Dell laptop does not perform very well with it. i was expecting and improvement over vista, and i think at best it matches vista.
in any event, i am sure it will be a different thing on my desktop once i take the plunge.
super mild out today, amazingly in the 60's. got home a little earlier than usual today, nicole is not feeling well and wanted to come home with her. still coughing, she has to pay her dues until the cold eases away.
there was some sort of an event at the steak house next door to work today. they had the old bat-mobile original car parked at the front door, and russel simmons and other people were around, some sort of PR event and dinner. i took a few pics with my iphone, will post or twitter later.
