Saturday in August

Got up relatively early this morning, went up to bed soon (for my standards) last night. Watch the Olympic Games ceremony just for a bit. The weather is awesome (side note: Rikk thinks "awesome" is replacing "cool"). Super nice, it was like 59 F this morning, and I saw people jackets last night. It is pleasant right now, about 80, comfortable. Hans came by for a while and we played around with his old computer, trying to see if it would boot up, which it did. It's a 3 GHz HT box, should be fine. We are going to try and install OSX on it. We were planning on playing some Rock Band, but we ran out of time

I ended disabling System Restore on my Vista box (again), don't know why it turned itself on, maybe some of the patches and updates.

Amazon's shipping & handling abilities never cease to amaze me. That is the one single reason I tend to pick them to fulfill my orders, even if they are a bit more expensive than others. That, and reliability (you can return stuff, no questions asked.) They have truly become the kinds of fulfillment and shipping over the years. And they are the masters of packaging (they have innovated heavily in an industry where nobody thought it was possible, with creating bubble wrapping and boxing). Alas, they delivered my 4 Gb of DDR Corsair memory this morning, super-fast. Will be testing them out soon.

Thu early

I saw a trailer for a movie that looks really funny, Rocker.

BTW, I don't remember if I had mentioned this excellent idea for a site that can be built in a couple hours, it is nice to see there is still room for innovation within existing concepts. Brilliant.

Is it down for everyone or just me

pics from the weekend

A couple pics that Judit sent, one of me and Nate playing Rock Band, and one of all having dinner at Otto in the Village.

Parents

BTW, heard from my parents, they are at the beach, must be nice . It was their 39th wedding anniversary today, felicitats!

Devices

As I may have mentioned, I decided to order memory last week to replace the 1 Gb stick that died a few weeks ago. It arrived yesterday, but unfortunately it doesn't work. I figured it wouldn't but had to try for myself anywayz. I got 2x2Gbs of "integrator grade" memory which uses very high density chips, which aren't compatible with intel mobo chipsets. I had used these in the past with SiS and VIA chipset mobos without any issues, so I had to try for myself. No biggie, it was $40. I re-ordered another 1 Gb stick of custom K45-tested memory to be safe, but I also got another 2x2Gb of Corsair higher grade memory, just to test it out as well. I read some reports of people who got it to work on the K45, although the box specs say it only accepts 2 Gb max.

I also tried to see if I could get another HD for my DELL laptop. The goal is to run OS X on it, which seems to have trouble booting from an external USB HD. I opened it up and inspected the drive. It doesn't use a regular 2.5" but rather a custom 1.8" unit that only Toshiba makes, geez. I looked around and it seems like you can get an 80 Gb one out there for $120, which seems kinda pricey (you can get a 320 Gb 2.5" for that much.) Anyway, I didn't pull the trigger on this one, still wondering whether I want to do it and have the time and energy.
