Spain

Landed in Barcelona without any major eventualities. Met up with Bill at the airport. Had something to eat at Chili's, nice bartender, Kristie. She had a tattoo of the captical sins on her wrist.

We walked around Igualada for a bit this morning, took a nap. Getting ready to eat something now. Supposed to go to Jordi's for dinner tonight.

Thu

Was at work until relatively late tonight with Hans. When we came out, we stopped by Meli Melo on Madison Ave. for dinner. It was OK, his snapper was better than my cod. Headed to PS 450 on Park Avenue after that, had a couple of drinks there.

Going into work for a while, till the early afternoon tomorrow, then heading off to Spain. Bill will be joining in. Going to my niece Elisabet's baptism.

Barca won its first Champions cup game yesterday easily. Let's see how they do this season.

Still have to pack up for tomorow. Will probably leave it for when I get back from work, before I leave for JFK.

:-)

The horizontal smiley face, created by combining a colon, a dash and a closing bracket, is 25 years old today!

Scott Fahlman, research professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University, created the emoticon at 11:44am on 19 September 1982.

"Yes, I am the inventor of the sideways 'smiley face' (sometimes called an 'emoticon') that is commonly used in email, chat and newsgroup posts. Or at least I'm one of the inventors," Fahlman said on the Carnegie Mellon website.

The professor claims that the idea came to him because humorous comments posted on the university's bulletin boards were often misinterpreted.

Carnegie Mellon professor Scott E. Fahlman was the first to use the :-) in a computer message.

Wed

And Wed is pretty much over. Gossip Girl, a new show started today, watched out of curiousity because it is set in Manhattan. Seems a little juvenile.

On Monday this week Stan Stalnaker, a writer, web 2.0 expert, and noted cultural commentator, gave a talk at work. It was very interesting. He had a number of interesting ideas and points.

The weather continues to be pleasant. I stopped by Jamba Juice on my way back home and got my first free Mango Passion smoothie, so good . Also went across the street and picked up Maui Tacos for dinner. Talked to Pep for a bit, he is in Salt Lake City for a few days, visiting U of Utah professors and friends. He gave me up update about what's change since I lived there, which is not a ton.

Tue night

Back home, very productive day at Carnegie Mellon. And as it turns out, I am not going to MIT tomorrow and Thu after all, so I will be in NY. The played got into LGA late today, as usual. Seems like no afternoon or evening flight ever makes it into LGA without a delay. The taxi line was out of control as well, but I had no luggage (other than my tiny laptop) and it moved fast.

Starving, going to eat something. I have like no food, must order something. I walked into Duane for a minute to get some basics, but I must place a Fresh Direct order tonight.
