Slava dies

World-renowned Russian classical musician and Soviet-era dissident Mstislav Rostropovich has died. The conductor, composer and cellist died early Friday, in a Moscow hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was 80. He was considered to be one of the greatest cellists ever.

Rostropovich became an anti-communist civil rights activist during Russia's Soviet rule. He became a friend of dissident author and Nobel laureate Alexander Solzhenitsyn. Rostropovich left the Soviet Union with his family in 1974, going into exile in Paris. Four years later, Communist authorities stripped him of his citizenship. Rostropovich was the music director of Washington's National Symphony Orchestra from 1977 to 1994. His Russian citizenship was restored after the collapse of the Soviet Union. After that, Rostropovich divided his time between Russia, the United States and France.

Out

Going to take a quick shower and probably head out for a while. Not sure where yet. Maybe start at Katwalk, take it from there. I am not hungry, had a nice lunch at Vento with Joel - love their cheeses, olives and cured meats.

Listening to Tino Casal's Eloise and Embrujada, some of his best hits. Pretty obscure dude, you won't know who he is unless you are from Spain, and born in the 70's or early 80's

Jordi's Wedding pics

Posted a couple pics from the wedding and trip:

Drew

Looks like Drew Barrymore got voted #1 most beautiful at this year's People magazine ranking. Odd, I never thought of her as that attractive. I mean, of course she is OK, but not a "most beautiful" type. Interesting.

Thu

Started out raining this morning, but it's turned into a nice day. Although I think it's supposed to rain again tomorrow and Saturday .

Exchanged some emails w/ Suki. Had lunch with Joel. Played phone tag with Chip. Got a message from Hans, we are going to talk this evening. Traded msgs with Monika as well. Holly had to go to Houston for work.
