Apple Time Machine
My Time Machine seems to have died as of a 3 weeks ago. I tried rebooting it but no luck. I suspect the internal drive, a 1Tb, may have failed. I haven't had time to look into it in detail. When I was about resign myself and buy a new 3Tb unit - $399, ridiculous - I realized one of my routers, my higher end ASUS RT-AC68W, has Time Machine capabilities built in. And so, I just attend one of my tiny USB powered 2Tb WD drives to it and in minutes I had a new Time Machine on my network.
The trick was completing the first backup. My MacBook pro had to backup 350Gb of data. It failed the first time because I moved around and left it not connected to power. The second time it took all night but it completed the full backup which is cool. Subsequent backups are only incremental, so it's no big deal.
