HDs

After much searching I finally found my stash of hard drives, couldn't find it after the move . It is 9 different external drives of all sizes and capacities, ranging from 80 Gb to 1 Tb. Now let's see if I can reuse one of the cases to at least attach a 500 Gb backup drive to the server so it keeps and always available copy of my music.

Dinner soon, getting hungry!

Lambo

Pic of a Lambo Gallardo LP560-4 taken by my friend Jesus in Barcelona while he was driving around in his very own Porsche Boxster S . White seems like such an odd color for a $250k car.

wed

it's almost wed. already, catching american idol right now. got home fairly late tonight. you can still smell the polyurathane after the floors refinishing. one of the widows has a bit of condensation - they have double-pane glass - so we told the super. i think he is going to try and order us a new one.

had salmon with roasted potatoes and green asparagus for dinner, very good.

i was trying to get my itunes configured again from scratch, with the 3g iphone and all, but as i tried to re-create my library the thing crashed - as usual. it is just such a crummy app, even in its most recent version, 8.1. i have now go back and figure out where it crashed, reload folder by folder that it missed. bah.

in related news, apple announced today version 3.0 of their operating system software for the iphone. they are adding a couple good long-awaited things, like cut and paste - about time - push notifications.

weekend. mid march

Several days without posting, and the main reason being (besides busy at work) that we had to move out of the apartment on Wed so that the contract could refinish the living room, dining room and entry way floors. We slept 2 nights at my other place on 35th street, came back Saturday morning. The floors looks great, shiny and nice, big improvement.

Last night we met a large group from work at Whisky Park, a bar on 2nd ave and 31st, it was James' birthday. Good times, we stayed there for a bit, then got hungry and had dinner at Les Halles.

Yesterday and today it got chilly again, boo. Seemed like the weather was getting better but no luck, still unpleasantly cold on the streets. Annoying, it feels like it's been winter for 6 months now

I spent a good part of the day moving the furniture back into the living room (had to remove everything for the refinishing) and rehooking up the cable boxes, tv, server, wi-fi, received, etc. Then we went to the Apple store in MeatPacking in the evening to buy an iPhone 3G. It was not crowded at all. We went through the process of transferring my account, etc. and before I walked out the iPhone was up and running. It was all good, the only annoying thing is how intrusive the process is (they as you for your email like 4 different times, they force you to have an AppleID, etc.)

After that we headed to Fig and Olive on 13th street where we had some appetizers and a drink, then walked home.

Also, we had somebody come in a clean the windows, they were super dirty because of all the construction work, and they required somebody to get half way on the ledge to clean them. It went fine, took the guy a long time, but he did do all 13 windows in the place. It was kind of pricy, I wasn't expecting it, they charged us $10 per window (!)

TWC SMTP

Man, looks like TWC changed their SMTP relaying policy yet again and recently decided to report their entire dynamic blocks (Road Runner customers) to spamhaus and spamblock. They are not explictly forbidding the IPs from sending mail, but in effect, having them on spamblock lists essentially means nobody is going to let you relay messages, booo.

That means I had to disable my old trusty Mercury server, it's no good as a stand-along SMTP server anymore. Looking for a way around this so that my home server can send email again to all third party domains, I proceeded to enable and configure Window Server's built in STMP virtual server, and set it up to work using Time Warne's smtp outbound servers as smart hosts. That worked, and all seems back to normal now. I will test tomorrow from a remote domain to make sure I got the relay control and rules setup right and I am not an open relay
