Out of the Office Messages

While I was researching best practices/etiquette for "out of the office" messages last week, I ran into some really funny ones:

  • I am currently out at a job interview and will reply to you if I fail to get the position.
  • I'm not really out of the office. I'm just ignoring you.
  • You are receiving this automatic notification because I am out of the office. If I was in, chances are you wouldn't have received anything at all.
  • Hi! I'm busy negotiating the salary for my new job. Please don't bother to leave me any messages.
  • I've run away to join a different circus.
  • AND, FINALLY, .... I will be out of the office for the next 2 weeks for medical reasons. When I return, please refer to me as 'Loretta' instead of 'Steve'.'

Wed

Back to work today, a lot to catch up on. Great weather. Talked to Pep, we are going to meet for dinner tomorrow evening. Read about some concerns regarding the cracked iPhones, Apple released a note saying the firmware updates will damage them, we'll see.

Updated my Office 2007, I was several patches behind, didn't realize until yesterday. Stopped by Maui Tacos on my way home, mmmh. Played phone tag with Chip, but I think we are all straightened out. Had a message from Monika last night, have to call back. I think she will be back in the country soon.

Pau Casal's speech at the ONU

Virtuoso Catalan cellist, Pau Casals popularized the traditional Catalan song El Cant dels Ocells (Song of the Birds), adopted as the official United Nations hymn. He was invited to the ONU in 1971 and gave the following speech when the hymn was presented for the first time. Click on the image to start the video (the tv hosts will introduce it for a few seconds, then the speech starts, in English)

Nate, Hannah

Pretty funny picture Nate sent me to the phone while I was out. It's from Hannah, while we were hanging out a few weeks ago, last time he was in town. Have to catch up with him as well, see what he has been up to.

Back home

Got back home, no problems. Pleasant flight back. We left at 10 am Barcelona local time, landed at 1 pm or so NY time. Bad traffic on the way back to my apartment, took about an hour or so. Bill has a connecting flight that should put him in Cinci by this evening. Talked to my parents as well, all good.

Just finished unpacking. Pretty hungry, should go out and getting something to eat soon. Also would like to call Pep when I get a chance. Tons of mail accumulated, plus several NetFlix movies. During the flight, nice chat with Michelle, who was sitting next to me. She is a fashion designer, just finished her first collection.

LinkedIn keeps picking up speed, had several invitations to add colleagues and friends while I was out, plus some to endorse. That takes a bit of thought, I will take care of that later this week. Also, email from Todd M., sounds like he is doing quite well.
