Super fast DSL - Speed Upgrade

I called Verizon over the weekend and got my broadband connection upgraded. They told me it'd be done by COB today, so as soon as I got home I rushed to the computer to see how fast it was - I know, I am such a geek

Anyway, the router says it's trained up at a whooping 3.4 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. That's amazingly fast. Not that it was slow before (1.8 Mb down/512 Kbps up,) but still, it's noticeable. Great job Verizon, they're putting their new fiber network to a good use.

This evening I talked to Danielle for a while before leaving work, she is a colleague. She is in charge of the recruitment portion of the Johnny Walker Mentor program, very cool stuff. I hadn't talked to her in a while, we caught up. She is thinking of going back to graduate school, so she wants to take the GRE, which I took a few years back myself. She also had some interesting stories about her love life, which I'm afraid I shall not reveal here . Perhaps some other day.

Anyway, getting milder outside, can't wait for Spring.

Sun

It's a rainy day out, but it's not too cold (my wireless thermometer says it's 47 outside.)

Didn't go out last night. Talked to Bill, he is in Fostoria, he had an appointment to do his family's taxes.

Going to Isabella's for brunch, a classic Uper West Side restaurant on 77th street.

Sat evening

I did a lot of stuff around the apartment today. Just got back from getting some food, i'll have dinner watching the Cinci vs. KY game on TV, should be a good one.

Not sure I am in the mood to go out tonight, I may stay in. We'll see.

It's the weekend

Weekends are good . Time to rest, read the paper, relax.

Met a friend, Kaye, at a bar near work for drinks last night, and we ended up getting something to eat too. She's cool. I stopped by Bar 9 on my way back, got home around midnight.

Ran into Colleen, which was a complete coincidence. She is an actress who occasionally works as a bartender. I hadn't seen her in like a month (since I've been out of town so much lately.) She mentioned she's been in a production, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, by Alan Ball (if memory serves me well, I think he is the same dude who wrote American Beauty and Six Feet Under.) They got good reviews, and she wanted me to go see the play some time, but they are done with it now. Oh well, next ime.

Woke up relatively early this morning, a lot of errands to run today.

St. Patrick's

It's St. Patrick's day today, a party night. There's an Irish restaurant across the street from my building and it was already packed when I walked by earlier today.

I have to do laundry tonight. I've been out of town for so many long weekends in a row that I'm way behind.

BTW, I re-joined NetFlix last week. I was a member 2 years ago when they first came out with the service. I rented all the movies I ever wanted over a period of 9 months, then cancelled. I figured they may have a few new movies I'm insterested in.

The weather is getting better, it's not so cold anymore. Like 40's during the day. Spring is around the corner. Talked to Jen last night. Talked to Doug today. I need to call Karsten one of these days, he's left a couple messages on my machine lately but I haven't had the chance to answer.

I may go out later, we'll see.
