monday - memorial day weekend

we just got home from spending the weekend out in CT with friends, had a great time. unpacking and getting ready for quick lunch, and then we'll chill for a while.

btw, barcelona did win the champions league final vs. man-u, it was a great game. an extract from the wall street journal:

"...
Perhaps the best thing that happened in today's game was United scoring a goal shortly after Barcelona's first. If Wayne Rooney hadn't netted the early equalizer, then Barcelona's march to its second Champions League title in three years would have been over in the first half hour. Because today, the Catalans were in rare form. Wait, what am I saying? They were in normal form, which for them is a level of soccer currently unmatched in the club world. Just about every Barcelona player deserves accolades for stellar play today, especially Messi, Xavi and Dani Alves, Iniesta, Pedro -- hold on. I'm naming the whole team. And it's a complete game that they play. It's worked for the last three years and was on display tonight. Barcelona most notably eradicated Manchester United's midfield and defense. Watching the big lumbering Ferdinand try to keep up with Pedro, Messi and Villa was like seeing a school bus drag race with a Lamborghini.

After Barcelona scored their second -- thanks to Messi, the world's finest player -- it was clear that United was not going to have an answer. The Catalans are the reigning giants of European soccer, even if many of them aren't even 5-foot-8.

While Barcelona celebrates, it's worth noting that this is Edwin van der Sar's last game. He's had a stellar career, and it's a shame to see it end with such a clinical dismantling of his goal. But that's this sport, and we will get the tournament restarted in August. Have a great summer."
