Saw X-Men yesteday, that was cool. Awesome effects, decent story. The X-Men series by far remains the best super-hero movie series ever. I don't think the upcoming Superman Returns will be better. They have everything you'd expect. Definitely held my attention, although it seemed a bit long. If you go, you have to stay until after the credits, there is an additional ending.

They did an OK job at portraying Jean Gray as Dark Phoenix, but I wasn't quite satisfied how the director handled the manifestation of her overwhelming power - people and mutants around her are consumed and disappear in a weird disintegration effect.

Below is the classic comic book rendering on Phoenix, the only Class 5 mutant ever known, as Xavier says in the movie. Note that the comic books never use this classification or power system. They call her instead an Omega level mutant (most powerful.) Below that there is Alpha and Beta level. "Omega" refers to mutants with virtually unlimited potential. It doesn't necessarily mean the mutant is extremely powerful, but they can potentially become extremely powerful.

Cheering and clapping from the crowd took place several times throughout the movie.
