Forgot to mention, Nicole bought some fresh truffles at Garden of Eden earlier this week. Kind of pricey, they go for $499 a pond (!) 
. She used them to make super-delicious truffled mac and cheese. Yummy.

the event/video compression
Have been running Handbrake on my server all night to re-compress the first 9 episodes of The Event, a new show from this season. It's supposed to be good. Want to get them all in an iPad-friendly format. Video compression is a very processor-intensive task, the E6500 overclocked at 3.66 GHz (original speed 2.93 GHz) gets quite hot in the process. Monitoring the core temperature it goes from 40 C while idle to 83-84 C after compressing for an hour. I think it's still OK, Intel's CPU have a built-in thermal limiter that should kick in if thinks it's too much, and throttle the speed down.
