IE 7 CPU and memory utilization

I've noticed IE7 uses a lot more memory and CPU than IE6 used to. It is not uncommon for IE7 to lockup my machine with 90-100% cpu utlization for several seconds when opening a new complex page. Pages like ESPN's homepage and many others with several embedded Flash pieces and movies cause it. Long pages that make use of client-side XML manipulations cause it as well. I get the impression the rendering engine in IE7 is way suboptimal. Similarly, memory usage is high, and it's not unusual for a single instance to be using 150 Mb or more, even with just one or two tabs in use.

Alonso

Two-time defending Formula One champion Fernando Alonso passed Felipe Massa of Ferrari on a slippery track late in the race Sunday to win the European Grand Prix in Nuerburg, Germany. The McLaren driver closed to within two points in the standings of leader Lewis Hamilton. The rookie was ninth, finishing out of the top three for the first time in 10 races this season. Massa was eight seconds behind in second place with Mark Webber third for Red Bull to equal his career best. Hamilton, who also drives for McLaren, leads Alonso 70-68. He started 10th on the grid following his crash in qualifying Saturday. Kimi Raikkonen, who started from the pole, pulled out in the 34th lap due to a problem with his Ferrari.
