Pep

As I may have mentioned, my very good friend Pep is gone from the Big Apple, he spent here 6-7 months on a sabbatical, will miss him. He is back in Barcelona. Here is a picture of the last weekend here (last weekend), we went to a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden:

And since I am way behind in posting pics, I will post another one of Nicole while at SunBowl in Vermonth 2 weekends ago

Logitech Harmony remote first impressions

So, all in all I guess so far I am disappointed with the new fancy remote I bought a few weeks back. I spent time yesterday aftenoon tinkering with it and getting in programmed just right. It has quite a few flaws in my eyes. It's not ergonomically optimized to manage a PVR for one thing, which is inconvenient, because it's the device I use the most. The buttons are a little too low and make you grab it in an awkward way. I could get over that if it were the only thing, but the configuration process is not good either. You have to always hook it up to a computer to change anything, then use a clumsy interface, then re-flash the remote to transfer all the new instructions. Trouble is the flashing process is less than smooth and it hangs almost every time. You have to kill it, unplug the remote, pull the battery and do it over, then it works. Tsk, tsk. It's been around for a while now, did not expect beta-like bugs. Anway, let's see if I change my mind once I get more used to it. The range is way better than my old Sony Remote Commander, that part is good. But something as simple as making the PVR control the amplifier volume without having to change devices (which is 2 keystrokes minimum) can't be done straight away and you have to go into "learning mode" and send the actual IR key to it while hooked to the computer. Lame.

Anway, we'll see.

Taxes

Tax time for me this weekend. I have been meaning to take care of it, but hadn't had the chance yet. Yesterday evening I chilled at home and took care of it. I actually procrastinated until very late, so by the time I started it was well past midnight. The logical consequence was that I didn't get done till early this morning, around 6 am. Ended up having to file quite a few schedules (A, B, C, D, 6251, SE, etc.) and it took me a while to sort it all out. But it's done now, just have to drop the forms in the mail. For some reason I prefer to sit down and do it all by hand, it is one of the very few things I enjoy doing analogically you could say , instead of using Turbo Tax or something. It's kind of find to read through all the intricate tax code stuff, I ended up spending way too much time on the IRS site downloading forms and instructions I have no business looking at
