A Catalan Christmas

Nice article in the NYTimes about what Christmas in Barcelona is like:

IT was the Christmas season in Barcelona, but inside the city hall, a 14th-century palace, a scene from “the Arabian Nights” was playing out. Palm trees and satin cushions had turned the Gothic patio into a desert tent, complete with incense and Middle Eastern music. Pages, clad in pantaloons and velvet-trimmed turbans, led each child to the Moorish throne of the Royal Mailman and the bulging satchel he would use to convey their petitions to the Three Kings. Yes, those Three Kings: the magi in the manger with the frankincense and myrrh. Here in the Mediterranean, the North Pole and the jolly guy in the fur-trimmed suit don’t make much cultural sense. sunday

a little chilly out, it was 23 F earlier this morning, it's crawled up to 28 F now, but still not very pleasant. yesterday was errands day, lots of things that had to be done, stamps, cards, shopping and more. today is truffle day at Eataly, so i think Nicole is trying to make us delicious truffled pasta for dinner, yummy.

last night decided to go ahead and install windows 7 64 bit on my desktop at home. all other computers i own have had 7 for a long time, but this one had a 3 old vista install with all the corresponding baggage: tons and tons of software that had to be reinstalled, hundreds of programs. in the end it wasn't too bad. windows itself installed smoothly in maybe 15 minutes. from that, i made a list and in a few hours it was done. i would say i have 95% of everything already in there now. just missing a few small things. feels snappy.

have to take care of a few more things today: mounting new pictures into our picture frames - this is actually a lot more complicated than you would think - as well as hanging a coat rack and stuff in my closet.
