Dead bikes
It's common to see "dead bikes" on the streets of NYC. What happens is that unsuspecting owners tie them up to poles or designated bike areas which happen to be too close to the street pavement. When cars, or more often trucks park or maneuver in the streets, they go up on the sidewalks and poor bikes end up being colateral damange, and become mangled and destroyed.
