TV and eBay
So, last week I decided to experiment with eBay and put my old big screen TV up for sale. Nothing wrong with it, it just takes up a lot of space in my living room and I don't use it anymore (thanks to my awesome projector.)
Let me say that, in principle, I dislike eBay. I have been a member since like 1999, and I have rarely bought anything. I had definitely never sold anything. In my experience anything you can buy at eBay, you can buy brand new at a store typically for less money. The only thing it might be good for is collectible items or concert tickets, or anything else that cannot be bought or is out of print.
Anyway, I put the TV on eBay and demanded whoever bought it had to come get it in person (no shipping.) That reduced that buyer pool to the New York metro area. I also asked for a crew of 3, and a truck or van. I explained it's a sunken living room and they will have to lift the very heavy TV and make it up a narrow set of steps, etc.
Regardless, and surprisingly, several people bid of the TV, and it looks like I will end up getting some money for it. That will be nice. I had called a couple services and they wanted to charge me money to come get it, so it was sort of a liability. If I am able to turn that into cash, it will be quite nice. Let's see what happens, I won't believe it until the guy actually shows up.
