memory malfunction
Had quite a bit of computer trouble these past few days. Turns out one of the memory chips, a 512 Mb DDR PC-3200 unit, malfunctioned. Considerable hassle until I figured out the problem. On top of that, the primary hard drive had a few bad clusters, compounding the issue and masking the memory problem. Took me a good deal of trial and error until I issolated each issue and fixed it. Machine running stable again now, although I need to buy more memory 
. No data loss, which is awesome.
