El noi de la mare

My mom was talking about this charming old Catalan song a few days ago. I did a search, and sure enough, I found it:

El Noi de la Mare

The melody is a 16th century traditional Catalan folk song that is a Carol. The literal translation of the title is "The Son of Mary." The first known arrangement for classical guitar is by Miguel Llobet (1878-1938.) This beautiful melodic song was a favorite of Spanish guitar Maestro Andres Segovia, and the sheet music was left open on Maestro Segovia's stand on the day of his passing, and may have been the last piece he played.

The particular rendering you can download here is by the Escolania (choir) de Montserrat, which is one of the oldest boys' choirs in Europe.
